Manchester united hosted Everton in a blockbuster clash in week 22 of the English Premier league.
Ole Gunner Solskjaer men knew a win with a huge margin would temporarily see them temporarily top Manchester city on the log while Everton were looking to boost their top four hopes as a win would see them break into the top 4.
The first half of the game saw united largely dominate while Everton were pinned back to their own half although they looked to play on the counter. United dominance on the ball would pay off midway into the half as Edinson Cavani headed in an inviting cross from Marcus Rashford.
The home side would double their lead on the brink of halftime as Bruno Fernandes cleverly sent a well timed shot from the edge of the box after spotting Jordan Pickford off his line.
Everton had an opportunity to reduce the deficit through dominic Calvet-lewin who missed a one vs one with David De gea after being sent clear by James Rodriguez with United two goal advantage remaining intact heading into the break.
Everton hit back just immediately after the restart through Doucoure after some awful defending from United's back four to change the course of the game. The away side would equalize just a few minutes later as James Rodriguez sent a fierce shot past David de gea in the 52nd minute.
Solskjaer's men would however regain their lead in the game after Scott McTomminay headed in from a Luke shaw free-kick to restore the home side's lead in the match.
Everton threatened to comeback in the game again, ad they left it late as they Dominic Calvet-lewin scored with what was the last kick of the game.
Arsenal had earlier lost to Aston Villa earlier in the day as an early goal from Olie Watkins was enough to see the Gunners lose two consecutive games for the first time since November.
