Forgotten Super Eagles star scores in Italian League to Give Rohr More Selection Headache

Out of favour Super Eagles striker Simy Nwankwo was on target for Crotone in the Italian Serie A as they lost heavily in a midweek fixture.

Crotone were on the road to an in-form Atalanta and will expect nothing less than goals from their forward players led by Simy Nwankwo.

This was the first game in charge for new Crotone coach Cosmi, brought in after Giovanni Stroppa’s dismissal with the team rock bottom and coming off six consecutive defeats.

Atlanta took the lead through Robin Gosens but Nigeria lanky striker levelled matters in style midway through the first half.

Atalanta were dominating, but Cristian Romero and Remo Freuler had a misunderstanding, allowing Nwankwo Simy to go clear and beat Marco Sportiello with a delicate lob for Crotone’s surprise equaliser.

However, it didn't work out well for the visitors in the second half as Atalanta went further to score four more goals in the second half for a comprehensive 5-1 win.

Fortunately for Simy Nwankwo, it is a goal at the right time as Gernot Rohr is expected to unveil his Super Eagles list for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin Republic and Lesotho.

The 28-year-old is fitter and performing better than Napoli striker Victor Osimhen who has suffered injuries through out the season.
