UEFA Champions League

MNU 3:2 ATA: Ronaldo's Masterclass, Rashford Resurgence and Other Talking Points Of The Game.

Manchester United welcomed the Italian side Atalanta to Old Trafford in their matchday three of the UEFA Champions League in a bid to leapfrog them to the top of the table. Manchester United has three points from six going into this fixture after suffering a shock defeat at the hands of Young Boys in their first group stage match.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made a couple of changes going into this fixture with Marcus Rashford given a nod ahead of Jadon Sancho while Paul Pogba was dropped to the bench in favor of Mc Tominay. It was a far better lineup than the one at the weekend which he chose to start Maguire who just returned from an injury.

Atalanta took the Red Devils by surprise as they notched two goals before the stroke of halftime. Manchester United however pulled a dramatic comeback courtesy of goals from Marcus Rashford, Harry Maguire, and of course the one and only Cristiano Ronaldo. Some Key Moments from the game include:

1. Man United Recurring Defensive Woes

Manchester United has always been found wanting when it comes to their leaky defense as they've gone on to concede in nine consecutive games which are worrisome for a team that desires to win trophies. Yesterday, Luke Shaw was the victim for both goals scored by the Italian side, although he made up for it through a well-served cross to Cristiano Ronaldo for the winning goal. Manchester United must act fast in solving their defensive crisis if they hope to win silverware this term.

2. Rashford Resurgence

Marcus Rashford has often come under severe criticism from the fans as most of them believe he isn't worthy to don the red jersey of Manchester United. This is as a result of his underperformance for the team before he went on that lengthy injury. However, he seems to have rediscovered form after coming off from the bench at the weekend to spark a comeback against Leicester which couldn't materialize.

However, last night, his second attempt finally paved way for the home side as he pulled one back in the 53rd minutes of the game through a fine finish in the six-yard area of the box. He had a couple of decent chances to score more but failed to convert them. Unfortunately, his brilliance was cut short as he was substituted due to a knock after he was spotted holding his thigh.

3. Ronaldo's Masterclass

You'd agree with me that since the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo, he hasn't had a decent performance in the games he scored but last night was the best performance of the Portuguese. He came close to scoring on more than three occasions which is the highest he has gotten since he rejoined the side before finally heading home the winner.

He has now scored three goals in three consecutive UEFA Champions League games for Manchester United. To add to it, his celebration at the sound of the final whistle is one every Manchester United fan and his supporters were excited about as he let his emotions show in it. It was also the second time since his arrival that he has scored the winning goal for Manchester United.
