According to latest reports from top Italian journalist, Gianluca Di Marzio, Chelsea and Napoli are close to making another deal this summer after the Italian side sold Kalidou Koulibaly to the London team.
Di Marzio reports that Kepa Arrizabalaga is close to joining the Italian side on loan in a deal that will see Chelsea pay three quarters of his salary.
Why This Could Be A Huge Mistake
Although, Kepa has been a great professional for Chelsea in the way he has handled himself since losing his first choice place to Edouard Mendy last year.
The Spanish international joined Chelsea in a record transfer fee for a goalkeeper and was supposed to be the club's first choice goalkeeper for years to come. But due to some poor performances, a replacement had to be brought in and it forced Kepa to the bench, playing understudy. Since then, he has improved and has looked like a top class goalkeeper.
Edouard Mendy on the other hand has seen his level drop immensely since his sensational form that forced Kepa out of the first XI.
Many have suggested that, Kepa now has a chance to retake his position considering how poor Mendy has been lately.
Last season, Mendy was responsible for a few Chelsea losses, he struggled to record clean sheets and his save percentage dropped massively.
In the pre-season matches ahead of the new season, Mendy hasn't looked very convincing. With Kepa on the bench, Chelsea have a capable replacement for the Senegalese should he fail to step up and man the blues' goal like he should.
But, with this latest transfer report from reliable sources in Italy, Chelsea might be making a big mistake if they allow Kepa leave on loan.
Apart from the fact that they will still be paying most of his salary, they will be losing a top back up goalkeeper with the new season set to get underway next weekend.
