"This is one of the biggest regrets I have ever had," says Okocha.
Austin Jay Jay Okocha, a former Nigerian Super Eagles captain, has admitted that he has no regrets about not having added the prestigious CAF African Footballer of the Year award to his individual laurel during his game days.
He made the announcement while speaking during a question-and-answer session with media personality Toke Makinwa on Thursday.
"And if I say, I'll say, I'm sorry I didn't win the African Footballer of the Year, this is one of the biggest regrets I've ever had," he said.
"But of course if you look back there is always a time when you say oh maybe you could have done a little bit better than you did."
"I thought I did enough to win it because it wasn't a mistake to win a BBC Player of the Year three years in a row and not be able to win that CAF award, but I mean it probably wouldn't be."
"Well, I don't think I want to sound greedy, but I've had an amazing career, I never thought it would be this cool."
Augustine Azuka "Jay-Jay" Okocha is a former Nigerian professional footballer who played as an offensive midfielder.
