Thomas Tuchel's team had to work hard for their 1-0 victory over Brentford at the weekend, but they looked to be in for a much easier evening against their Swedish opponents after taking a two-goal lead inside the first 20 minutes.
Andreas Christensen scored his first goal for the club with a beautiful volley to put the hosts ahead, before Jorginho scored a composed penalty shortly after, following a dangerous, lunging foul on Lukaku by Lasse Nielsen.
Worryingly for the home side, the Belgian was forced off as a result of the tackle, while Werner, another attacker, walked off just before the break with a hamstring injury.
Despite those setbacks, the Blues continued to dominate after the break, immediately increasing their advantage via Kai Havertz, who combined beautifully with fellow replacement Callum Hudson-Odoi to conclude a blistering counter with a dinked goal from the angle.
The visitors' night went even worse as they conceded another penalty just before the hour mark, with Jorginho converting once more after Antonio Rudiger was knocked over inside the arches by Eric Larsson.
While they had chances to increase their lead even further, the hosts were forced to settle with a 4-0 victory that kept them in second position in Group H, with Tuchel praising his team's 'intensity' on the night.
Tuchel told BT Sport, "We wanted three points and we wanted them merited, and we earned both of those."
"We played with a high level of energy because we required it from ourselves, and we played a fantastic game until we were up 4-0." We're overjoyed."
The win was obviously tarnished by injuries to both Lukaku and Werner, with the former Paris Saint-Germain manager confirming that both men will be sidelined for Saturday's match against bottom-placed Norwich City.
"Romelu has a twist in his ankle, and Timo has a muscle injury and hamstring, so they'll be out for a few days."
"We're usually in good shape in terms of injuries; just Christian Pulisic is out, but we miss everyone." We have a lot of games and contests, so we now have to deal with them and find solutions; there are no more excuses.
"The two were in good shape, they are dangerous, and they can create and score, but now we need to find solutions, and the ones who have waited their turn must step up and score." The race is on, and we'll strive to find new answers with the guys that start against Norwich.
‘We have won games with Werner and Lukaku before; we don't want these issues to occur too frequently, but they do occur over the season.”
