Premier League

Meet the Nigerian who was the first player to ever score four goals in a Premier League match.

Premier League has produced plenty of world-class players, which some of these players have kept a record that can never be re-written in the competition, some have kept a record that is yet to be broken by any of the current Premier League players.

But this particular record is so mouth-watering in the sense that it can never be broken and changed in the history of the Premier League.

The Nigeria player with the record.

Some Nigerians might not no him but he is very popular in England and the super eagles.

Efangwu Goziem Ekoku was born on the 8th of June 1967 just seven years after Nigeria got their independence. He is a Nigerian former footballer who played as a striker. During his club career, he played for Sutton United, Bournemouth, Norwich City during that time they're one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League and he also played for Wimbledon, Grasshopper, Sheffield Wednesday and Dublin City and lastly he represented Nigeria in the international level.

According to Wikipedia, Efan Ekoku began what turned out to be a record-breaking career in the Premier League, at non-league level, but made the move into League football(before it was named Premier League) in the summer of 1990 when he signed for the legendary coach in the name of Harry Redknapp. At the Harry was coaching Bournemouth, who had just been relegated to the Third Division.

Ekoku start in the Football League was not what he expected as he managed just 20 games and three goals during the 1990/1991 season in the football league, where his team finished mid-table that season. But he never gave up and he did a whole lot better in the following season, scoring 11 goals in 28 league games.

Becoming Premier League most lethal forward.

His breakthrough came after his £500,000 move to Norwich City on 26 March 1993 which took him to the Premier League and the rest is history.

He arrived at Carrow Road when Norwich was in the thick of the title race under the management of Mike Walker. Ekoku scored three goals in ten games in what was left of that exciting campaign, and although Norwich was beaten to the title by Manchester United, Ekoku and his teammates had achieved a third-place finish in the newly formed Premier League and qualified for the UEFA Champions League.

His start was not that encouraging at first before he kickstarts his career by scoring Norwich's first-ever goal in European competition, against Vitesse Arnhem in the Champions League.

At the time he was in the best form of his life and they were coming against Everton who was also at the time a big club. In the match he scored four goals as Norwich beat Everton 5–1 at Goodison Park, becoming the first player to score more than three goals in a Premier League game. In the match, he scored a record-breaking 4goals. At that season he managed a total of 27 league games that season, scoring 12 goals in the league (and 14 times in all competitions).

Lastly, during his Nigeria playing days he helped Nigeria National team to reach a great height in world football. And he is considered a Nigeria Legend after he retired from football.
