Opinion: Why Chelsea Not Signing Jules Koundé Could Affect Them This Season.

UEFA Champions League holders Chelsea are buzzing with full confidence going into the new season.

There have been a few new faces that have arrived at the club. Romelu Lukaku and Saúl Ñíguez have been brought in to help the team achieve their goals this season.

However, most Chelsea fans are disappointed in the club's failure to sign a left central defender, having sold Kurt Zouma to West Ham for £30m.

Negotiations for Jules Koundé were expected to materialize but the sevilla board decided not to accept any bid less than his £65M release clause with Chelsea not willing to match that.

Personal terms have already been agreed between Chelsea and kounde but Sevilla never gave any green light to complete the deal, hence it collapsed.

As it stands, Chelsea has no replacement for Antonio Rüdiger as he is the only big left central back at the club. An injury to Rüdiger can cause Chelsea all sorts of problems, as he has proven to be one of the most important players at the club since the arrival of Thomas Tuchel. With Koundé, Chelsea would have been able to rotate and rest him when necessary, but now, Rüdiger has to stay fit and strong, otherwise Chelsea may find themselves in trouble.
