After 18 months at Shanghai Shenhua in China, the striker returned to Roma.
"China is a closed chapter; I got an opportunity and seized it," he explained. “It was my ambition to return to Roma, and I appreciate the sporting director and President's kind welcome.
“All I can think about right now is Roma and reclaiming my position in the national squad. I've discovered a lovely Roma. This year, we started over with a project that focuses on experience and young players.
“There are high expectations, but we must not put ourselves under undue stress. There's a lot of energy that needs to be channeled and managed."
El Shaarawy also mentioned Tammy Abraham, a teammate.
“Abraham has been assimilated into the human race.”
El Shaarawy went on. “He has good technique and knows how to attack the depth.
“He has the ability to provide us a helping hand."
When I returned, I rejoined a group that was really high in terms of talent. We had a great start to the season, but then slowed down towards the finish. However, we have started the season with a project that includes both experienced players and some younger players with a lot of potential. The club has made a significant investment in the coach, who has a wealth of experience and knowledge — everyone knows what he's accomplished – and whom the players all want to emulate.
