Cristiano Ronaldo scored Manchester United's winning goal against Atalanta in the Champions League last night. By so doing, the Portuguese superstar has now scored against 38 different teams in the competition, the most number of teams any player has ever scored against.
His goal last night is his first in the Champions League against the free scoring Italian team. Already, he has just scored his first goals against all three teams Manchester have faced in the competition this season.
Being the all-time top score in the competition with 137 goals, it should be interesting to know which team is his favourite. This means the team he likes scoring against the most based on the number of goals he has scored against them.
Normally, many would have expected this to be against one of the lowest ranked teams in the competition. However, the team he has scored against the most is one of the biggest football clubs in the world. In fact, he has even played for the team before.
By scoring against them the most in the competition, he holds a record. The five-time winner of the UEFA Champions League holds the record for the most number of goals a single player has ever scored against a single opponent in the history of the Champions League.
In the Champions League, Cristiano Ronaldo has played for Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus. From his time at Real Madrid and Manchester United before moving to Juventus in 2018, Cristiano Ronaldo had scored 10 Champions League goals against the Old Lady.
His 10 Champions League goals against Juventus are the most he has scored against a single opponent in the UEFA Champions League history. In fact, as said earlier, it is the all-time record of the highest goals scored against a single opponent.
Note that this has come in 179 Champions League games, which is also the most by any player in the competition. The 2021/2022 group stage matches will continue as the Red Devils will face all three teams again. Certainly, Cristiano Ronaldo will be looking to score more against them.
With both Juventus and Manchester United looking set to progress further, the Italian club and the English football giants could have each other as the competition progresses. If they do, the Red Devils could be assured that in Cristiano Ronaldo, they have a player who knows and likes to score against them.
