UEFA Champions League

Why Lionel Messi’s Goal Against Manchester City Should Not Have Won “Goal Of The Week” Award

The latest UEFA Champions League matchday offered some superb matches like Paris Saint Germain match against Manchester City, and Chelsea’s trip to Turin which ended in defeat for the London side.

There were 42 goals over the two match days and Bayern Munich were the biggest winners with a 5-0 victory over Dynamo Kyiv. Some spectacular goals were scored also and UEFA rightly nominated some top goals for the goal of the week.

Lionel Messi’s goal against Manchester City was named the goal of the week, but I think that award should have gone to another player and there are reasons why I believe another player should have won.

Lionel Messi’s Goal.

Lionel Messi scored a fantastic goal which sealed Paris Saint Germain’s victory over Manchester City. Messi ran at the Manchester City defense before doing a quick one-two with Kylian Mbappe and unleashing a well placed shot into the top corner.

Lionel Messi’s goal was great, but I think Sebastien Thill’s goal for Sheriff Tiraspolshould have won the goal of the Week award.

Sebastien Thill’s goal was a volley that won the game for Tiraspol on the 89th minute against Real Madrid. Thil caught the ball with the outside of his foot and directed a volley past Thibaut Courtois from outside the box-18.

Sebastien Thill’s goal won the match for Sheriff Tiraspol against the “Almighty” Real Madrid side. Thill’s goal made Sheriff claim one of the biggest upset in recent Champions League history. So, I think Sebastien Thill’s goal should have won, what do you think?
