The 2020/21 season is drawing to its timely end and all the major competitions have reached their pivotal stages.
Chelsea are one of the eight teams remaining in this season's UEFA Champions League campaign.
Many people consider them as one of the favorites to win the competition and here are four valid reasons why they are likely to win it :
1. They got the best possible draw
After beating Atletico Madrid over two legs in the round of 16, Chelsea were drawn against Porto, who are not as strong a team as Atletico. Although they eliminated Christiano Ronaldo's Juventus, Chelsea will be expected to breeze past them in the quarter finals.
2. Lewandowski is injured!
Bayern Munich are the reigning champions of Europe. Their form this season suggests that they are still favorites to go all the way and retain their trophy.
However, their hit man; Robert Lewandowski suffered an injury while on international duty for Poland and will be sidelined for 4-6 weeks. He is set to miss both legs of their quarter final matches against last year's finalists PSG.
Knocking out the champions will ensure a new king of Europe this term and Chelsea will look to capitalize on their absence from the competition.
3. Potential Semi Final opponents are still rebuilding
When Chelsea successfully defeat Porto in the quarter finals, their next opponents is one of either Real Madrid or Liverpool.
Zinadine Zidane's men are the most experienced club still in the competition but they are not at their strongest form this season. They have been plagued with injury issues and are still trying to figure out their strongest starting eleven.
Liverpool on the other hand are in woeful form. They also have their injuries to battle with and are still trying to recover from losing 6 games in a row at their Anfield fortress.
4. Potential Final opponents do not have European big-game pedigree
Over the years, the winners of the UEFA Champions League are clubs with European experience and big game pedigree.
By our speculations, Chelsea's potential Final opponents (Manchester City or PSG) have never won the trophy and boast only one UcL final appearance between them.
Chelsea have been solid since the arrival of Thomas Tuchel and have the ability to neutralize the threat of their opponents, no matter how strong they are. They can surely take on PSG or Man City who have a knack for losing to unexpected opponents (like Lyon last season).
Chelsea themselves have only ever won the Champions League once in their history but with their strong form and caliber of players, they are strong favorites to win it this year.
