Opinion: Pedri Is The Future Hope Of Barcelona After Messi's Departure

Pedri’s journey has been quite something. A year back, he arrived in Barcelona thinking he’ll do pre-season and then leave on loan for more minutes/experience.

Lo & behold, today, he has cemented his spot in the team and is labeled by many as the favorite for the Golden Boy Award.

Not to mention, huge props goes to Ramon Planes for finding about the talent of Pedri in the first place — otherwise we wouldn’t have seen Pedri at Barcelona.

Pedri though isn’t the first great talent that was full of promises at Barcelona. Players like Bojan Krkic, Thiago Alcantara and Pedro Rodriguez have all being tipped to carry Barcelona forward, but at the time they needed them most they were later sold off. What has made me to choose Pedri as Barcelona's savior is because the team selected him in almost all their games last season, Spain used him both in the Euros and in the Olympics and also he won the Young Player of the Tournament award at the Euros.

That's not all, he has proven that he is a team leader as he played more than 70 games last season alone. With the kind of workrate that he put in last season, if he is developed, he will surely become the team leader at Barcelona, now that Messi has has deported the club.

What do you think?
