Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has included twelve Nigerian eligible players in the Gunners’ Premier League squad till the end of the season.

Mikel Arteta updated the initial squad he submitted in the summer due to the exit of Ainsley Cory Maitland-Niles, Joseph George Willock to West Brom, and Newcastle respectively.

In the summer, Arteta did not include Mesut Ozil in his squad, with the German midfielder joining Fenerbahçe in the winter.

In the new squad list for the rest of the season, Arteta includes twelve young players with Nigerian heritage in the squad. Some of these players have made their debut for the first-team, while others featured for the Reserve team. 

The players in this category are also registered as U-21 players. They are eligible to represent the first-team in the Premier League.

These players are goalkeepers Arthur Okonkwo and Ovie Ejeheri, defenders Ryan Alebiosu, Mazeed Ogungbo, Tolaji Bola, Zachariah Awe, and Daniel Oyegoke, midfielders Tim Akinola and Miguel Azeez, strikers Folarin Balogun, Nathan Butler-Oyedeji and Joel Ideho.

Although some of them have made their debut for the first-team, none have debuted in the Premier League.

One of them, Folarin Balogun, is a subject of interest from several top clubs in Europe - and Arsenal are trying to extend his contract beyond the summer.

Arsenal are still in the UEFA Europa League, where they will be coming against Benfica in the knockout stage. The Gunners are struggling for form in the Premier League, sitting in tenth on the log with thirty-one points.
