Former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard used Timo Werner either as a left winger or a centre forward during his time as manager.

Werner’s Chelsea career started out well, but since then he has been struggling for goals. The 24-year-old hasn’t scored in his last 14 Premier League games, and he has also netted only 1 goal in his last 19 games.

New boss Thomas Tuchel has been charged with the task of getting Werner back to his scoring form, and the German striker has now seen his role change under Tuchel.

Tuchel doesn’t use Werner as an out and out left winger, but he plays more as a left number 9, and it seems the German international prefers this role.

Explaining his different roles for both managers, Werner said: “Every manager is different in how he wants us to play.

“He gives us a lot of ideas. Now I play as a left number 10, not a left winger, so I have more space for my runs in the middle and can play behind a striker, or with a number 10 behind me as a second striker.

“So it’s very good for me and I think there were also good moves from the manager in the last two wins.”
