Chelsea, Man Utd and Man City - Ranking the best defensive option of EPL Suitors based on past Forms

The overall performance of team is just as good as their Defense. A team with an excellent Defense but lacking a good attack could go a long way in competitions while a team that possess a ruthless attack with an average Defense might not progress far.

Let me paint the picture this way. Barcelona played wonderfully against Bayern Munich in their first 2021/22 Champions League encounter. However, the club falled to an emphatic 3-0 defeat at home. What happened to Barcelona was clear. Their defense wasn't up to task and their attacks failed them. The match could have easily ended up in stalemate if Barcelona Defenders were able to defend against Bayern Munich.

Former Manchester United Manager Sir Alex Ferguson has said it already during his days at the Old Trafford. The Scottish Gaffer said: "Attack wins you games and Defense wins you Trophies." Without a good defense set up, a team can only be as Good.

Manchester City did not add any upgrade to their defense last Summer but the Citizens shouldn't have any issue with the defense of the premier league title. Between the likes of Ruben Dias, John Stones, Aymeric Laporte, Joao Cancelo, Kyle Walker, Nathan Ake and Zinchenko, Manchester City has one of the best Defense in the English premier league.

Ruben Dias was signed during the summer of 2020 on an initial 5 years deal but his performance for the citizens last season has earned him a bumper deal as Manchester City doubled his weekly wages from £90,000 to £180,000 and offered him a renewed 6 years contract.

The signing of Raphael Varane was seen as a major boost to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer defense. The reason for this isn't far-fetched. The Frenchman played a vital role in the World conquest of the France National team in 2018. He also made undeniable contributions in the 4 UEFA Champions League that Real Madrid won during the last decade.

Of course, Varane can't do it alone and that's why he has the United's Skipper and the most priced Defender in the World Harry Maguire beside him. Aaron Wan-bissaka might not be good offensively with his botched and half-decent crossings but he's one of the best sliding tackler in the league.

The Red Devils also has Luke Shaw, the best Left back in England. If they manage to keep them all fit for most part of the season, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer might just be able to end Manchester United's 8 years drought of the English League title.

Chelsea have not signed any Defender since Thomas Tuchel took charge but the German Gaffer has increased the work rate and refined his Defenders. The club now has Cesar Azpilicueta and Reece James who can interchangeably play as right wing-backs and Right centre halves in a three-man defense setup.

Marcos Alonso has also been quite impressive this season. Then, there are Andreas Christensen, Thiago Silva, Trevor Chalobah and Antonio Rudiger who are actual Central Defenders.

Liverpool also boasts of numerous Defensive options this season. The Reds has Virgil Van Dijk, Ibrahim Konate, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson.
