Pablo Mari criticizes Arsenal new signing Albert Lokonga for a mistake during training session

During his first training session for Arsenal, Pablo Mari wasn't kind to new signing Albert Lokonga.

The 21-year-old signed a long-term contract with Arsenal from Anderlecht earlier this week, with a reported fee of £17.2 million.

The midfielder got right to work as he met up with his new teammates for the first time since completing his move to the Emirates.

As Mikel Arteta's side prepare for the forthcoming Premier League season, the North London club shared a video of Lokonga being put through his paces at London Colney.

And defender Mari did not show any favoritism to the newcomer.

The players were doing a one-touch passing drill, and when Lokonga accidentally took two touches of the ball, the Spanish centre-back was quick to criticize the Belgian Under-21 international.

Cedric Soares, whose competitive streak was plainly on display during the session, would next face Mari's wrath for making the same error.

Arteta is delighted to have Lokonga on board and believes he can develop into the holding midfielder that Arsenal has desperately needed in recent years.

He said: "Albert is a very intelligent player who has shown great maturity.

"He has been coached well by Vincent Kompany and his team at Anderlecht. I know Vincent very well and he talks so highly about Albert and the positive impact he had on Anderlecht in recent seasons.

We're confident Albert's ready for the next stage in his development and we're looking forward to welcoming a new member to our squad with his quality and presence."

Arsenal technical director Edu added: "There was a lot of interest in Albert and he was a big target for us.

"He will bring us strength in depth in the centre of midfield."
