Chelsea and Manchester United will need to stay focused and follow the following procedure listed below for a successful 2019/2020 season.

(1) Lampard needs defensive reinforcements

Chelsea dominated the match at West ham but still came away losing the match and their Premier League crown. West ham had less of the ball but more of the chances. They will wonder how it happened, but the answer is painfully obvious and is the reason that they find themselves 23 points behind Liverpool in the first place: their defence is quite simply not good enough.

The departure of John Terry, the fall of Rudiger and the injury to Fikayo Tomori has left the blues well short at the back. Christensen has filled in ably but ultimately he can play as a defensive midfielder and not a proper solution. Most played matches exposed his flaws in that he can be burned by electric pace, which given how far forward Chelsea play, is a huge problem. Zouma is one solution but the blues will need another; a centre-back with genuine pace to partner Rudiger.

2. Improve Antony Matial and Marcus Rashford to Raheem Sterling?

Rashford was sensational for Manchester United last season and to start this one. Then something happened to his form around the turn of the year, which is a baffling thing to consider when you realise how good they are.

Against Southampton, they never really looked like a threat in attack. There were some bright dribbles and neat movement, but on the whole he was far too easily contained by Southampton. It’s baffling to watch and it must be concerning to Ole Gurnner.

They are both struggling for a champion league play next season, the blues now have upper hands to qualify after there defeat on Manchester City and Manchester United draw to Southampton. At these stage a draw match is like a lossed one.
