The 26 years old on Sunday scored the winner in 2-1 over Club Brugge in a Belgian Jupiler League Championship match.
With Onuachu watching from the bench, the Belgium-born clinically converted a spot kick on 85 minutes, to ensure his team secured a crucial win at Jan Breydelstadion, Brugge.
Dessers, who has scored six goals in 32 matches since joining Genk from Heracles Armelo for €4 million on 30 June 2020, was also among the goals in 4-0 home thumping of Antwerp on May 20 and 2-1 win at Anderlecht five days earlier.
Dessers is a proven goal scorer, having netted 15 times in 21 matches for Heracles to emerge joint top scorer of the abandoned 2019-2020 Dutch Eredivise season alongside Steven Berghuis.
Since arriving at the club on a four-year deal, Dessers has been living in the shadow of Onuachu , who will likely join one of his numerous suitors in the summer, and Genk will surely let the towering striker go for the right fee, knowing Dessers can effectively replace him.
