The Blues outclassed and outplayed the Crystal Palace team with ease; Chelsea rightly won the game 4 goals to 1. If the front line of Chelsea had converted all the goal-scoring chances to goals, the game would have ended with a bigger score in favor of Tuchel’s team.
The team selection by Thomas Tuchel was spot on and the tactics deployed were close to perfect, the players had an amazing outing, it wasn’t surprising that the team was leading three goals to nil in the first half. While the game between the two EPL sides has ended, these are the lessons learned from the game.
1. Havertz is getting better: Chelsea spent a huge amount of money to sign Havertz, his performance before the crystal palace game had left many fans wondering why Chelsea spent big on the German player.
Havertz display at Selhurst Park is a reminder to those that are watching that he is getting better and is ready to take the league by the storm. The way he played the false nine role shows how good he will become when he gets used to the league and his teammate.
2. Captain America is back: The 2020/2021 season has been a challenging one for Pulisic with reoccurring injuries which has limited his game time and also contributed to his poor form.
The way he took his two goals and how he mesmerized the crystal palace defenders throughout the game is proof that Pulisic is getting back to the previous form that made the team handed the number 10 jersey to him.
3. Tuchel’s effect: The effect of the German tactician on the team is becoming obvious for all to see, the display of the Chelsea team against the crystal palace is what the Thomas Tuchel team is all about. A quick movement of the ball in the midfield and closing down the opponent before they could hurt the team was what Chelsea did in the EPL game.
The Chelsea team is playing with an identity under the tutelage of Tuchel.
4. Tammy Abraham didn’t make it to the field despite the match being decided at the early part of the game, he was left on the bench throughout the 90 minutes. He may have to step up his game at the training ground or start instructing his agent to get him to another team.
With few games left, Chelsea is still fighting to make it to the top four for the 2020/2021 English Premier League season, the game against Crystal Palace is one of the tests Chelsea must pass to get to the champions league qualifying spot for next season. Chelsea is set to play FC Porto on Tuesday as their next game.
