Opinion: Why VAR Should Have Reviewed The Referee's Red Card Decision Against Leeds United

The English Premier League continues this weekend as Leeds United hosted Liverpool at the Elland Road Stadium. Liverpool continued in their winning ways as they cruised to a 3-0 win over Leeds United. Liverpool started their EPL season on a high note after winning their last two matches in August 2021.

Mohammed Salah gave Liverpool their early goal in the 20th minute following an assist from Alexander Arnold. Fabinho netted the second goal in the second half while Sadio Mane sealed it up for Liverpool in the 90th minutes of the game. Although Leeds dominated the game, they were not clinical enough to put the ball in the back of the net

The most eye-catching moment of the match was when a Leeds player, Pascal Struijk was given a red card for a rough foul on Harvey Elliot who could not continue to the match due to the level of the injury. I think the center referee's decision was very harsh on the Leeds player. Watching closing one would understand that Pascal Struijk's tackle on Elliot was unintentional and he didn't deserve the red card given to him.

The decision made by the center referee, Craig Pawson needed a serious look by VAR to understand what happened that led to the red card awarded to the Leeds player.
