La Liga

Leo Messi knocking on Xavi's door in search for records

With the round figures harvested on Saturday by the azulgrana captain in El Alcoraz de Huesca, Leo Messi has started the countdown to surpass the two individual records held to date by Xavi Hernández, player of FC Barcelona between 1998 and 2015.

The current coach of Al-Sadd Catarí accumulated 767 official matches with the azulgrana elastic, 505 in the League. Two figures that, since then, nobody has been able to surpass.

Now, the '10' Argentinean, is to 18 games to become the player of the Barça with more games and to six of being the azulgrana with more presences in Liga.

524 victories

Messi could not celebrate yesterday these spectacular figures (750 official matches, 500 of them in the league) with a goal, although he did with a victory, the 524th as an azulgrana, and a new attendance, the number 260 - to the Dutch De Jong-, which added to those achieved with Argentina, 40, add up to a total of 300 in his career in the football elite.

The Rosario native, on the other hand, accumulated 644 goals (451 in the League) and became the first foreigner to reach 500 League matches, although still far from the player who holds the greatest number of matches in domestic competition: Andoni Zubizarreta, with 622 appearances in the shirts of three teams: Athletic, FC Barcelona and Valencia between the 1981-82 and 1997-98 seasons.

Messi, if there are no setbacks, is called to make history as azulgrana in the next matches, when he will beat Xavi first in participation in the League and, later, when he will surpass him in total matches.

And, as always it has maintained the '10', the individual marks are the less in its race.

Messi prioritizes the collective successes, but it is clear that for him it would be an extraordinary cherry to finish the present season as the player with more parties of the Barça and with titles that to celebrate with his companions. It is what the Argentinean wishes today with more desire.
