Chelsea are ‘too nice’, laments Frank Lampard after Arsenal easily extend their woeful losing run

Frank Lampard thinks Chelsea are "too nice" and find it difficult to function as a team.

In the Tuesday London derby at the Emirates Stadium, the Blues were completely outplayed by Arsenal after falling behind 3-0 after only 34 minutes.

After suffering his sixth straight loss, Chelsea's interim manager spoke about how he had to yell at his team at halftime to just execute the fundamentals.

Lampard told Sky Sports: “In every manner, the first-half performance fell short of expectations. We were too nice opponents in every way—nice with the ball, passive.

"Defensively, we didn't do the things we discussed before the game. We didn't close off the area between the lines, pressure the ball, or make physical contact with any Arsenal players.

Noni Madueke scored for Lampard's team in the second half, and Lampard said, "It was maybe things I said at half-time that to be fair, I said before the game."

Lampard has up till now consistently defended his players, but without the bait of playing in Europe next season, there is little incentive to battle for success.

He was forced to admit his team's inability to compete after losing his sixth game since joining the team.

"I'm not questioning the players as lads," Lampard continued. "Starting with being good guys and carrying it onto the pitch. To be an aggressive athlete on the field, you don't have to be aggressive during the workweek. You must take action in that manner.

"It is fundamental. The two items are. To approach individuals is something I believe is a mental drive. It also begins with having the capacity to accomplish it.If you haven't been conditioning and doing it, and you don't do it on Wednesday, "Thursday, or whatever day you want to discuss, you won't do it.We are currently witnessing that when those things become you as a group, they don't alter overnight.
