Huesca Football Club were crowned winners of the LaLiga SmartBank League, after they capitalised on Cadiz's loss to Albacete by defeating Sporting Gijon 0-1.
Before the final match of the season, Cadiz were on top of the table with 69 points, while Huesca were second with 67 points. Cadiz surprisingly lost to Albacete at home 0-1, thereby giving Huesca the opportunity to overtake them. Huesca won their match against Sporting Gijon through a solitary goal from Gonzalez in the 73rd minute, thereby topping the table and claiming the title.
Huesca and Cadiz have now been automatically promoted to the LaLiga Santander, while Real Zaragoza, Almeria, Girona, Elche will compete in a playoff in order to determine the club that will join them. In the other end of the table, Numancia, Deportivo La Coruna, Extremadura, Racing Santandar, have all been relegated from the league.
Despite Kelechi Nwakaki making his debut for Huesca on June 18, due to visa issues and the outbreak of corona virus, he has helped them to achieve promotion. Have a view of the LaLiga SmartBank table below.
