The Former Governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu has disclosed that, two-time CAF Champions League winners, Enyimba Football Club of was never an Igbo Team as oppose to the opinion of many football lovers in Nigeria.

Speaking exclusively in an interview on Nigeria Sports Mouthpiece (NSM), ahead of Enyimba’s last group game in the CAF Confederation Cup against Orlando Pirates, the former Abia State Governor stated that the People’s Elephant was never an Igbo Football team.

“Enyimba was never an Igbo Football Team, Enyimba was a Nigerian football team because they have followership everywhere.

“When we go to Kano you see some supporters of Kano Pillars supporting us, when we come to Lagos you see supporters of teams based in Lagos supporting us.

“When we go to Enugu we fight with Enugu Rangers, we fight with Iwanyanwu Nationale in their base so that’s why we are not an Igbo team, when we go to Kwara when Dr Bukola Saraki wanted start football, we have supporters there, we have supporters in Ibadan, we have supporters in Ondo, we have supporters everywhere we go.

“We were the only Nigerian football team that can be cheered anywhere in Nigeria, in fact Enyimba made me now in any 36 that I go they cheered me like a hero.

Recall that the most successful part of Enyimba as a Football Team when they conquered the black continent back to back winning the CAF Champions League twice, was during the reigns of Urji Uzor Kalu as the Governor of Abia State.
