OPINION: How Salah Has Overtaken Drogba As The Greatest African Player To Play In The Premier League

The English premier league has seen a lot of African sensations over the years. However, the greatest ever African player to have played in the English top-flight still remains a debate but there are some standout players. The likes of Yaya Toure, Didier Drogba, Michael Essien and John Obi Mikel are worldclass African players during their time in the English top-flight.

Many would argue that Didier Drogba is the greatest African footballer to have ever played in the premier league because of the quality and goal scoring ability the Ivorian possess during his time at Chelsea.

Over the last couple of years Mohammed Salah has being phenomenal for Liverpool. The Egypt international who failed to impress at Chelsea during his first spell in England before he was been sold.

Mohammed Salah is now excelling in the premier league with Liverpool, and has won the league title as well as the uefa champions league under Jurgen Klopp.

Mohammed Salah is now the leading African highest goalscorer in the EPL after scoring three times against Manchester United in Liverpool's spectacular victory at Old Trafford to overtake Didier Drogba who previously held the record.

Drogba won the premier league golden boot twice during his time at Chelsea while scoring one hundred and four goals in two hundred and fifty-four appearances for Chelsea. Mohammed Salah has also won the premier league golden boot twice at Liverpool, scoring one hundred and seven goals in one hundred sixty-seven appearances for the Merseyside club.

Has Mohammed Salah done enough to be considered the greatest ever African player in the history of the premier league? I personally think the Egyptian attacker is the greatest African footballer in the history of premier league era, because he has scored more goals than the Chelsea legend in lesser appearances.
