Opinion: Forget Match-Winner, Nigerian Born Midfielder Bonke Innocent Was Best Malmo Player In UCL Win

Bonke Innocent once more demonstrated his ability in front of the Malmo supporters as he produced an eye-catching performance during their UEFA Champions League 2-1 win over HJK.

The Nigerian-eligible playmaker joined the Swedish side from Lillestrom in 2017.

With some months left in his contract, Bonke has proved that he is taking his spell at the Scandinavian region seriously.

He has impressed observers in recent weeks, and his performance in the victory over HJK was further proof of why coach Jon Dahl Tomasson should do all he can to sign him on new terms.

The central midfielder was in top form and proved to be a constant thorn in HJK's side.

He provided the assist to Antonio-Mirko Colak for the opener. He tested Jakob Tånnander in the HJK net on two occasions, while he provided his teammates with big chances in the final third via three key passes and two accurate crosses.

In possession, Bonke has certainly taken the approach on board as he racked up an impressive pass completion rate – the best on the pitch over the 90 minutes.

Anders Christiansen will no doubt receive the plaudits and be recognised as the match-winner, but the real star performer was Bonke.
