UEFA Champions League

After Man City's Champions League defeat, Pep confesses his admiration for PSG's Verratti.

Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, says he is "in love" with Marco Verratti, the Italian midfielder who helped Paris Saint-Germain win the Champions League on Tuesday.

At the Parc des Princes, Verratti and PSG defeated City 2-0, with goals from Idrissa Gueye and Lionel Messi.

Despite Messi scoring his first goal for his new club, it was his teammate Verratti's performance in PSG's midfield that captivated Guardiola's heart.

Verratti is Guardiola's favorite player.

"I'm head over heels in love with him." Guardilola described him as "outstanding." "Even when he's under pressure, he manages to find the passes that open up the middle."

"He's not a long-passing guy, but he can always be counted on to help construct the game." We were able to better handle him in the second half, but he was very spectacular in the first."

'We have no control over them.'

Despite having multiple clear-cut chances throughout the encounter, Manchester City were unable to strike against PSG.

PSG, on the other hand, made the most of their opportunities, with Gueye scoring in the first half then Messi combining with Kylian Mbappe for a magnificent second goal.

Guardiola stated, "They may take the space." "Like Messi, Suarez, and Neymar at Barcelona, they are excellent players." There aren't many teams that can field these players. They're at PSG. We have no control over them. I can think of two options: defend and hope, or take the ball and make something with it.

"It's difficult to keep Messi under control for 90 minutes. It's difficult to stop him, so we had to limit his possibilities to touch the ball. We did what we knew how to do tonight, for better or worse, but we are who we are. Verratti was also outstanding tonight, and he was able to make links with Neymar."
