UEFA and CONMEBOL planning Argentina-Italy friendly to honor Diego Maradona

Argentina and Italy would play the game at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, the venue where Napoli, the team where the Argentine star played between 1984 and 1991 and won two Scudettos -the only two in the club’s history.

In honor of the late Diego Armando Maradona, UEFA and CONMEBOL are planning a friendly match in Naples between Italy's Euro champions and Argentina's Copa América winners.

According to the New York Times (via AS), both organizations have “advanced plans” to stage the match, though no specific date has been set.

Given that the FIFA World Cup isn't until the end of 2022, it's likely to happen next summer. The friendly might, however, take place during the winter break.

With the quantity of ongoing international fixtures, especially the World Cup Qualifying matches, it would be difficult to schedule this match in 2021.

Argentina and Italy will meet at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, where the Argentine legend played for Napoli from 1984 to 1991, winning two Scudettos - the only two in the club's history.
