Before joining Leicester City, Iheanacho played for Premier League side Manchester City, where he netted some league goals. Altogether, he has scored 31 goals in the Premier League so far, for both Manchester City and Leicester City. He still needs to score 64 more goals in order to equal compatriot Yakubu Aiyegbeni's goalscoring record in the Premier League.
Over the years, football fans have wondered if any Nigerian player in the Premier League will ever equal and perhaps break Yakubu's record. Even though it doesn't seem likely, Iheanacho has a chance to do just that, if he remains consistent for a long time, and also continues playing in the Premier League.
That said, here are the top ten Nigerian goal scorers in the history of the English Premier League.
1. Yakubu Aiyegbeni (95 goals)
2. Nwankwo Kanu (54 goals)
3. Efan Ekoku (52 goals).
4. Shola Ameobi (43 goals)
5. Osaze Odemwingie (36 goals)
6. Kelechi Iheanacho (31 goals)
7. Obafemi Martins (28 goals)
8. Victor Anichebe (26 goals)
9. Victor Moses (20 goals)
10. Odion Jude Ighalo (16 goals)
Can anybody actually catch Yakubu? 95 Premier League goals! That's a really difficult one, but maybe Kelechi Iheanacho can, or someone else. We will wait and see.
