Manchester City scored four goals against Real Madrid Man City in 2022/23 UEFA Champions League (UCL) semi finals. This makes them the fourth side to score as many goals against Los Blancos in a single game in modern history of the competition. Let us take a look at how it happened.
The first club to score that number of goals against the La Liga giants is Liverpool. The Reds achieved the feat in the round of 16 of the 2008/09 season. The Premier League outfit opened the scoring with a strike by Fernando Torres 16 minutes into the game. Steven Gerrard got a brace as substitute Andrea Dossena made it 4-0 two minutes before regulation time. This gave Liverpool a 5-0 aggregate win having won the first leg 1-0 at Santiago Bernabéu.
Borussia Dortmund (a Bundesliga outfit) joined the history makers in the semi final of the 2012/13 edition. It happened in the first leg at. Signal Iduna Park. Like in the case of Liverpool, BVB drew the first blood with Robert Lewandowski strike in the 8th minute. Ronaldo drew one back for Los Blancos 2 minutes before half time. In the second half the Polish striker netted 3.more times to give the Bundesliga giants a 4-1 win in the match. Real Madrid was eliminated despited winning the return leg 2-0.
The next club in this category is Ajax Amsterdam. The Dutch outfit did it in the first leg of 2028/19 round of 16. Lucky Ajax went ahead in the 7th minute courtesy of a goal from Hakim Ziyech following a pass from Dusan Tadic. The latter provided another assist 18 minutes into the game to give David Neres the second goal of the match. Tadic increased his goal involvements to 3 with a strike of his own 2 minutes after the hour. Marco Asensio drew one back for the Madridistas 70 minutes on before Lasse Schöne return the 3 goal lead with the fourth goal for the visitors.
