Pep Guardiola is arguably one of the best managers in the world of football today. However, the Spaniard has suffered a couple of big loses in his managerial career. Let us take look at some of the heaviest defeats of the retired midfielder.
Guardiola's biggest loses involved 4-goal margins. Interestingly, this has happened on three occasions. The first time was on April 29, 2014 when his Bayern Munich side faced Real Madrid in Champions League (UCL) semi final second leg. Sergio Ramos and Cristiano Ronaldo scored a brace each as Los Blancos thrashed the Bavarians 4-0 at Allianz Arena.
His next two four-goal losses came while he was the manager at Manchester City. He got the first in 2016. It was a UCK Group C game against his former club, Barcelona. The Catalans scored 4 unrelated goals against Guardiola's Manchester City on October 19, 2016. Ironically, his former star boy, Lionel Messi netted a hat trick in the game. The Spanish gaffer lost by another 4-goal margin while managing the Citizens in 2017. This time, it was a Premier League encounter between the Citizens and Everton at Goodison Park. Romelu Lukaku, Kevin Mirallas, Tom Davies and Ademola Lookman netted one goal each against the Manchester Blues.
The two-time Champions League winner also lost be 3-goal margins twice. Coincidentally, both of them happened in domestic league games. Wolfsburg thrashed Pep's Bayern Munich 4-1 in 2015. It was a Bundesliga match day 28 encounter. Bast and De Bruyne got a brace each for the opponents in the game. The Spaniard also went down 5-2 against Leicester on match day 3 of 2020/21 EPL season. Vardy netted a treble for the Foxes in the clash. Riyad Mahrez and Nathan Aké were the players that scored the two goals for Manchester City.
