Manchester United will have David De Gea to thank today for their win at Upton Park after the Spaniard saved a last minute penalty from Mark Noble. Despite making a positive start, the Red Devils found themselves behind in the 30th minute after a Said Benrahma's strike deflected off Raphael Varane and deceived David De Gea. But the away side were not to be down for too long as Cristiano Ronaldo brought them back on level terms after five minutes.
However, with United looking increasing frustrated going forward, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made these two tactical decisions that ensured victory.
1- Bringing on Jesse Lingard
Unlike the error he committed in the last game when he came on, Lingard's second half substitution this time around paid off as he found space and time inside the box to release a screamer into the top corner for the winner.
Another correct tactical decision Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made was taking off the underwhelming Fred in the 88th minute for Nemanja Matic. Immediately the Serbian came on, he found Lingard with a wonderful pass, one that led to the Englishman scoring the winning goal. Chances are if the Norwegian had allowed the Brazilian to remain on the pitch till full-time, United probably wouldn't have had a second goal in the game.
Many may not agree with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's tactics, but as far as the game at Upton Park is concerned, he got it right at the end.
