Nigerian athletes have performed beyond the expectations of some Nigerians. However, some have insisted that the performance of Nigerian athletes is below expectation. Ese Brume and Blessing Obodururu had won bronze and silver medals respectively.
The medals came at a point when Nigerian everyone when many have given up hope on the team Nigeria. The medals rejuvenated our hopes and give us the confidence to look forward for more.
However, it is important to note that many Nigerian athletes have been eliminated at various levels in different games at the Tokyo Olympics. One of them is the Men's Basketball team, D'Tigers of Nigeria. They were eliminated after they lost their three group games.
Also ten Nigerian Athletes were recently disqualified from participating in the ongoing Olympics in Tokyo Japan. The disqualification came as a result of the failure of the athletes to undertake the mandatory three out-of-competition tests expected of athletes in a competition of the standard of Olympics.
As a result of the disqualification, the affected athletes organised and carried out a protest. They insisted that they are suffering the negligence of the Nigerian sports authorities. Blessing Okagbare, a top Nigerian athlete, had said that the disqualification of Nigerian athletes is a shame brought upon the country by negligence of sports administrations.

Reacting to the disqualification, the Ministry of Youths and Sports submits that the disqualified are 'alternates and foreign students athletes, whose tests did not meet with sample collection and analysis standard'. Analysts have argued that the statement from the ministry of sports is an effort to avoid taken responsibility.
Athletics Federation of Nigeria, AFN, which is the governing body of the sport of athletics in Nigeria, has kept mum in the midst of the crisis.
Recently, Nigerian government has also announced a cash reward of 10,000 Dollars and 7500 Dollars for Blessing Obodururu and Ese Brume respectively.
On the other hand, there are many athletes who are Nigerians but are representing other countries. The situation is more like looking at the good,the bad, and the ugly turn outs of Nigerian athletes at the Tokyo Olympics in Japan.
