Chelsea Is A Strong Contender For The UCL But The Team Needs To Improve On its Attack

Chelsea is currently one of the strongest contenders for the UEFA Champions League trophy. Following last year's success, it's expected that Thomas Tuchel would want to defend the trophy. However, recall that Real Madrid remains the only team that has won the trophy consecutively.

On the other hand, it is clear that Thomas Tuchel needs to improve on Chelsea's attacking area if they are to win this year's UEFA Champions League.

Note that Chelsea currently has one of the best defensive setups in the English Premier League, which has conceded only 3 goals. In the UCL, Chelsea has conceded just a goal, but the problem is Chelsea needs goals to win trophies.

A closer look at Thomas Tuchel's set-up at Chelsea shows that they are very efficient defensively but poor going forward. Because Chelsea makes use of five defenders, attacking has been a problem. For this reason, Lukaku and Timo Werner are still finding it difficult to score goals.

Below is an Analysis of Chelsea's UCL games this season.

1. Against Zenit.

Even though Chelsea controlled the game, the team was not effective in the final third. For all the possession Chelsea had, they managed to register two shots on target. This isn't impressive.

2. Against Juventus.

Against Juventus, Chelsea also controlled the game, but the team was toothless in the final third. The team managed to get one shot on target all through the game. It was obvious that Chelsea offered no major threats in the attack.

The above statistics further justifies why Thomas Tuchel and Chelsea must improve their attack. Recall that winning the UCL requires that you are effective both offensively and defensively.
