Lionel Messi finally added the Copa America to his numerous trophies

The Maracana was all bubbling today as Argentina took on all time rival Brazil for the greatest trophy in South American continental football, the Copa America.

Even before the blast of the whistle the game was already mapped out to be a clash for the ages, the players it featured said it all. The game which was a rapid back and forth between the two opposing team was eventually seperated by the 22nd minute epic strike from Angel Di Maria after an assist from D. Paul.

Despite being at home and having most of the possession the game wasn't going the way of the samba boys. They controlled the game for most of the second half but they were unable to get an equalizer as the Argentine defense proved impenetrable.

Lionel Messi had the chance of doubling the lead late in the second half but lost his footing as he looked to swerve pass Ederson Moraes who easily picked up the ball. Di Maria's 22nd minute goal however was just enough to bring the trophy home. The Copa America trophy is Lionel Messi's major international trophy and a boost if not a completion of his iconic achievements.
