The ballon D'or awarding ceremony is to be held in Paris as usual on the 29th of November. Before this well-anticipated event, the organisers have released a 30-man list of nominees of which there will be votes which will result in a final three on or before that date.
Among this 30-man list, 14 happen to be from the toughest league in the World, the Premier League and whilst familiar faces like Messi (PSG), Ronaldo(Man United), Mbappe, Neymar, Lewandowski, Benzema and Modric all made the list, there happen to be first-timers who have been tagged to oppose strongly for this year's award.
One of these first-timers is Chelsea's Jorginho and giving from his 'CV' this year, alleged favourite Lionel Messi may lose this year's award to him. Messi has been tagged favourite for a seventh ballon D'or award this year having won the Copa America, the Copa America best player and highest goalscorer, the Laliga golden boot as well as the Copa del Rey title.
However, as he said in an interview with France Football and to L'EQUIPE a few days ago, Personal and individual prowess and achievements hardly determine winning the ballon D'or these days, rather trophies and titles go a long way in getting a player this prestigious award.
Unfortunately, Trophies and titles are what could make Messi lose the award to Jorginho this year. The Chelsea midfielder has under his belt, a fair share of trophies and titles, major trophies and titles to be precise that can easily subdue that of Messi's in a contest of silverwares.
Messi has probably had better individual numbers and stats than Jorginho, but the ballon D'or nowadays is based mostly on titles before individual performances and the Italian Man has that over his Argentine rival.
Jorginho has won the Uefa Champions League with Chelsea this year, the Euro 2020 Championship with Italy and the Uefa Super Cup title all in one calendar year. He also reached the semi-finals of the Nations League and went on to win 3rd place (bronze medal) in the Nations League after Italy beat Belgium in the 3rd place play off two days ago.
Who deserves to win it in your opinion from these two?
