The Premier League gameweek 7 has come to an entertaining end with the two top clubs in England at the moment facing off in what was a gruelling encounter. Goals from Mohammad Salah, Sadio Mane, Phil Foden and the very technical Kevin De Bruyne brightened up the encounter.
With this we can now produce an accurate ranking of players in this just concluded game week. As always in the Premier League there has been no shortage of standout performers and a list of the five best performances this gameweek is detailed below.
The very elusive and skilled Frenchman produced what has been one of his best performances in a long while. His goal against Everton was the first he has scored since February this year. This goal should not overshadow the fact that he had an almost perfect performance in the game. Although he seemed invincible at some point during the game as his impact was not felt up until the moment he scored, his accurate passing was very pivotal to Manchester United's attacking play.
He had the most shots on target in the Manchester United team despite being subbed off early in the second half. His 89% passing accuracy was also one of the highest in the team as he completed 34 out of 38 passes he attempted. There are valid arguments that the Frenchman could have had a better impact on the game even to the extent of winning it for the Red Devils if he had stayed on the pitch for the remaining course of the game.
4) Trevoh Chalobah
English youngster Trevoh Chalobah, was one of the most underrated players of this game week. The young defender put in a man-of-the-match performance by carrying out his excellent defensive duties and points and chipping in a very vital goal which was important to his team's win.
His expertise was also obvious on the technical end as he had five accurate long balls on his way to completing 90% of his attempted passes which was 59 of 66 passes he attempted on the pitch. He did this while also winning the most aerial challenges of the game and attempting the most tackles. Performances like this are sure to earn him more important role in Tuchel's game plan for future matches.
3) Pierre-Emile Højbjerg
One standout performance which was undeniable was the performance of tottenham's defensive midfielder Pierre-Emile Højbjerg. The player who is often termed as a defensive rock completed the most passes of the game and had the highest passing accuracy of the game while also showing his defensive capabilities by winning six attempted dribbles against him.
His winning of 6 attempted dribbles was the highest of the game, with him also making a vital interception saving his team as well as grabbing a goal to help on the offensive end. He has definitely proven Jose Mourinho right by justifying his price tag with thiese elite performances, it remains to be seen whether he can keep this up till the ending of the season.
2) Bryan Mbeumo
Bryan Mbeumo was one of the undercover shining stars of the matchday, his performance was undeniable as he grabbed a vital goal and had 4 shots in a performance where he was simply unplayable. He has been very pivotal to Brentford good run of games as his contributions have placed them where they are on the table.
He was shy of hitting his second against West Ham as he struck the woodwork with an excellent shot. Mbeumbo will need to stay fit if Brentford hope to continue their exciting run.
1) Mohammad Salah
The obvious performance of the weekend was from the Egyptian Mohammed Salah. He has been so vital to Klopp's success with the team as his inevitable goals and assists have helped Liverpool to a Premier League win and a champions League win. He once again demonstrated his class in a big game as he has always been known to. Dominating the Man City defence was just a side job for him on an evening where he was simply undefendable.
He left Man City defenders wowed by his elusive dribbling, most notably Joao Cancelo as his dribble against the Portuguese defender was one of the highlights of the game. This however should not make us forget the fact that he contributed heavily with one goal and one assist while also attempting the most tackles despite being an offensive player. His 84% passing accuracy was just the icing on the cake as all the other statistics put together combined to make him the obvious player of the game. This excellent performance puts him top of my list of the best five players from the Premier League matchday 7.
