According to reports,Chelsea are set to sign a new goalkeeper whether or not current first choice goalkeeper,Kepa Arrizabalaga leaves or remains at the club. The Blues have had to make do with Kepa, with the Spain international failing to reach the heights expected of him after his big money move from Athletic club last two summers.
Although,Kepa's form increased towards the end of last season,he has taken considerable steps in the wrong direction this season. The shot stopper has been shaky in goal this season. As at January,he had the worst save percentage of any goalkeeper in the premier league this season. At a time,he lost his place in the starting lineup to Willy Caballero with Frank Lampard opting to go with the veteran Argentine.
Due to his poor form, the Spain international has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer with the likes of Sevilla and Valencia touted to be keen on him.But according to reports going round, the former Athletico Bilbao shot stopper could be set to stay, with Chelsea aware that they won't be able to recoup the £71m that was paid for his signature.
The idea is to land a World-class goalkeeper to rival Kepa for the number 1 spot with the hope that this will bring the best out of Kepa as evident in his first game back after losing his place in the starting lineup to Caballero. In the game against Liverpool in the FA cup,he made stunning saves including three back-to-back saves to deny Liverpool a goal.It remains to be seen which goalkeeper could be moving to Chelsea, but the likes of Oblak and Dean Henderson have been linked to the Blues.
Chelsea are close to securing a place in next season's champions league. The Blues need just three points front their remaining two premier league games against Liverpool and Wolves to secure champions league football next season. The Blues booked a place in the FA cup final on Sunday as the finally got the better of Manchester united 3-1,after the successive loss to the Manchester club this campaign.
