Most professional footballers make use of their real names, even though they could be known by some nickname. Kanu Nwankwo was fondly called "Papilo" by fans, but on his shirt it was his real name that was always there. A similar thing could be said of some other players.
But there are some footballers, who had names on their shirts, which you thought were their real names, and never found out until much later. Even the legendary three-time world cup winner Pele, is not often recognized by his real name, which is Edson Arantes do Nascimento. Everybody calls him Pele, and some people actually think that's his real name.
Among African footballers, this has been the case certain times. There are players, who you won't recognize by their real names, because all the while you have known them by some other name, which has stuck in your head. Here are five of such African players:
Real Name: Mateus Alberto Contreiras
Real Name: Gervais Yao Kouassi
Real Name: Manuel Jose Luis Bucuane
Real Name: Fabrice Alcebiades Maieco
Real Name: Mohamed Nagy Ismail Afash
