The La Liga Table After Atletico Madrid Won 2-1 To Overtake Barcelona And Real Madrid On The Log

The first La Liga fixture of today saw the defending Champions Atletico Madrid travel to face Newcomers Espanyol at the RCDE Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Royblancos came into this fixture looking to claim their third victory of the campaign by defeating Espanyol in today's match.

Espanyol started the match looking like the better side as they created few goalscoring chances to take the important lead. The home side eventually took the lead as Raul de Tomas found the back of the net with a thumping header to make the scoreline 1-0 in the 40th minute of the game. Atletico Madrid orchestrated a few attacks in the first half but none could lead into a goal for them as Espanyol led 1-0 at halftime.

Atletico Madrid got the all-important equaliser in the 79th minute of the match as Yannick Carrasco drove a lovely left-footed strike past the Espanyol's goalkeeper to make the scoreline level at 1-1.

The Visitors initiated a wonderful comeback in the match as Thomas Lemar scored in the 99th minute to give Atletico Madrid a well-fought 2-1 victory over Espanyol at full-time.
