Checkout The Ballon dOr Contenders That Were in action Over The Weekend and Their Performances

The Major Leagues were up and running over the weekend with many goals pouring in across the leagues. However, certain players who have been tipped as the possible contenders for the most coveted awards in football history; Ballon d'Or, took the centre stage at their respective leagues.

Therefore, we shall look at the astounding ones and their contributions to the club in the course of carrying out their duties.

1. Erling Haaland (Borussia Dortmund)

Erling Haaland plays as a striker for the German side; Borussia Dortmund and was in action on Saturday, 14 August, against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Borussia Dortmund won the match by 5-2 with Erling Haaland contributing to four(4) of the goals scored in the match.

He scored a brace for the club and also registered two assists to crown him the man of the match in that particular encounter. He will be hoping to score again in their Super Cup match against Lewandowski's Bayern Munich on Tuesday.

2. Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich)

Lewandowski was also in action in the Bundesliga on Saturday, 14 August as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Borussia Möchengladbach.

Robert Lewandowski couldn't score more goals to help his team overcome Möchengladbach as his lone goal in the 34th minute wasn't enough.

3. Kylian Mbappe (Paris Saint Germain)

Kylian Mbappe was back in action on Saturday, 14 August, as his side saw off Strasbourg by 4-2 in what seemed like an entertaining game.

Paris Saint Germain unveiled their recruits to the fans before the game and so, therefore, Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos watched the game from the stands.

Mbappe however, proved that he can be relied upon as he contributed to three(3) of the four goals scored in the match. He scored in the 25th minute of the game and provided two assists to help his team win the game.

4. Cristiano Ronaldo (Juventus)

The Italian Serie A will kick off on Sunday, 22nd August 2021. However, the Italian teams played some friendly games between themselves with Juventus coming up against Atalanta on Saturday, 14 August.

Although the scoreline ended 3-1 in Juventus favour, Ronaldo failed to score neither did he register any assist for the Old Ladies in the match.

6. Kante and Jorginho (Chelsea)

Jorginho took part in Chelsea emphatic win over Crystal Palace on Saturday, 14 August 2021, while Kante wasn't in the squad.

They won by 3-0 at the end of the game. Jorginho was superb for Chelsea as he won the Super Cup last week Wednesday.

7. Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City)

De Bruyne returned from injury and made his appearance for Pep Guardiola's Man City from the bench as they lost by 1-0 in their opening fixture of the 2021/2022 football season.

8. Romelu Lukaku (Inter Milan >> Chelsea)

Lukaku completed his move from the Italian side; Inter Milan to Chelsea FC for £97.5m in a five-year deal with the club.

Due to his late arrival and final paper details, he was unavailable for their opening match against Crystal Palace but hopefully, should be fit for their next game against Arsenal on Sunday.

9. Karim Benzema (Real Madrid)

Real Madrid kicked off their campaign in style as they beat Alaves by 4-1 away from home on Saturday, 14 August 2021.

Benzema was on the score sheet as he scored two goals for the club in preparation for a glorious campaign ahead.
