EPL: Could Jadon Sancho Be Another Memphis Depay At Manchester United?

Jadon Sancho's early struggle at Manchester United seems to be quite similar to that of former United player, Memphis Depay. Given his poor early statistic, could the Englishman turn out to have a poor career, just like Memphis at Old Trafford?

21-year-old Sancho has had a slow start to his Manchester United career, as he has failed to record a goal or an assist in 10 appearances in all competitions for the club. Considering how effective he was in the Bundesliga, many fans expected him to immediately hit the ground running with goals and assists, but so far, he has failed to live up to expectations. Judging by the few games I have seen him play, his confidence level seems to be down, as he is lacking decisiveness in front of goal.

The game against Leicester City yesterday prove exactly how poor he is this season. He was unable to get more than one shot on target until he was substituted in the 65th minute. This is a really disappointing display, especially for a man, who cost €85 million.

Casting our mind back in time, Memphis Depay also struggled when he signed for the club. He was a player, who the fans expected to be a hit in the Premier League, given how he performed at PSV Eindhoven. His awesome record in Holland earned him a move to Old Trafford under Louis van Gaal in 2015. Just like Sancho, the Holland point man had a slow start to his United career, but the only difference between him and Sancho is that, he got his first goals Premier League goal in his 7th appearance. With a total of 7 goals and 6 assists, he ended up leaving Manchester United for Lyon in 2017, after his struggle to succeed in the EPL proved to be futile.

Not like I am wishing Jadon Sancho bad, but with the way things are going, he may end up replicating Memphis Depay career at Manchester United.
