UEFA Champions League

Real Madrid star becomes the 1st player to score in 17 straight UEFA Champions League seasons

France international and former Olympique Lyonnaise football club of France star, Karim Benzema was in action on Tuesday night for Real Madrid in their second game of the Group D UEFA champions league against FC Sheriff at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

The Frenchman retained his spot in his team's starting XI following his outstanding performance for the club in their previous game where he was able to shine.

Karim Benzema in the show of the night was incredible for the Los Blancos as he scored a goal in his team's home three-goal thriller but his efforts were not enough to save his side form the 2-1 narrow defeat.

The visitor took the lead in the 25th minute with a goal from Djasur Yakhshibaev to make it one nil which was the only goal that separated the two sides going into the half time break.

In the second half of the game, the tempo of the game got more intensed as the host got levelled via penalty in the 65th minute with Karim Benzema putting the ball away from the spot to make it 1-1.

After some dazzling displays, the host trailed from behind as they conceded yet another goal in the 90th minute courtesy of goal from Sebastien Thill to make it two goals to one.

After several trials from both sides to add more to the tally of the night, all proved futile as it ended two goals to one at full time.

Karim Benzema with his goal of the night has now becomes the first player to score in 17 straight Champions League seasons, which is the most of any player in the history of the competition.

Karim Benzema while doing this also surpassed Raul Gonzalez to become the 4th all-time top goalscorer in the UEFA champions league.

Real Madrid with the disappointing result of the night will now be hoping to be back to winning ways in their next fixture, so as to continue their pursuit in the competition.
