The blues were in fine form from start to finish, with goals from Olivier Giroud, Mason mount and well an own goal from Harry Maguire ensuring they will meet Arsenal at the same venue next month to contest the final of the world's oldest club competition.
Lampard couldn't hide his delight in his side's performance and give his immediate thoughts from pitchside at Wembley at the end of the game. "I'm very proud of the team today and I can't ask for much more than what they give me, apart from maybe a couple more goals" Lampard explained with the huge smile across his face. "which is surprising to say when you play against a side like Manchester United with their quality, but what I think impressed me most was the work ethic of the performance. We played with a system that we haven't used in a while and I was surprised to see them match us up.
He went further by saying "I thought we weren't up at the start of the game and then when they changed their system or I thought you were even better we did everything that is stuff and I asked them. I was delighted with our wing-backs getting up tight to stop them playing, then the midfield were all excellent-jorginho, kovacic, Mount- then Giroud leading the line, I could go through the whole team. I'm really proud of them."
The Chelsea boss was also delighted with the character shown by all the side today both the younger players and the more experienced statemen, with Lampard praising the 'leaders' in the blue shirts he saw all over the pitch.
He said, "we came into the game having lost at Sheffield United and have beaten Norwich, albeit with not a brilliant performance. But having a little edge around the place is not the worst thing."he further added " we change the system and put a lot of thought and information into that, but you are only as good as your players in that sense and day deserve huge credit for that performance today. They kept going right to the end against a really top side who came into the game in great form.
"We have finals ahead now. Arsenal is one for us we know that, but before that we have two finals in the league this week. Recovery will be huge for us and we will refocus on the league now, but of course it will be a great occasion. It's a London Derby against a good side and a chance to win a trophy."
So what do you think about today's match where do you think they got it right and where do you think the Manchester United team got it wrong.
