Willian's Decision On His Career Shows That He Cares About Football Than Money, Unlike Mesut Ozil

Arsenal's team is a little bit disorganized right now. Some players want to leave the club e.g Hector Bellerin, Mohamed Elneny and Willian Borges. While other players know that they could be sold e.g Ainsley Maitland Niles, Reiss Nelson and Eddie Nketiah.

Arsenal has lost the first two games of the new Premier League season to Brentford FC and Chelsea. Both matches ended in a 2-0 defeat for Arsenal which means the Gunners have zero points, zero goals and four goals conceded in the new season.

News emerged that Willian Borges has agreed to terminate his contract with Arsenal and is ready to sign a new one with Brazilian club Corinthians in the coming days. The Brazilian winger arrived from Chelsea last year on a free transfer but has failed to deliver consistent performances at the Emirates stadium.

Willian Borges has become unhappy with his performances at Arsenal and wishes to have a fresh start with another club. Inter Miami was previously interested in signing the winger but was unable to agree on personal terms with Willian.

I think Willian Borges should be praised for taking such a brave decision on his career unlike Mesut Ozil did and here is my reason why.

Not many players would be willing to move away from a big club like Arsenal when things aren't going well, especially when they have a lucrative long-term contract like Willian has.

Willian Borges was given a 3-year contract when he arrived from Chelsea and reportedly earns a big wage of about 250 thousand pounds per week. As witnessed with Mesut Ozil, some players decide to sit on their contract and earn the money rather than try to improve their performances.

After Mesut Ozil signed a contract extension with Arsenal in January 2018, he had a drop of form and didn't perform up to expectations. When Unai Emery was appointed as Arsenal manager, he tried to move Ozil on but the German midfielder declined all transfer options and decided to run down his contract.

He made the same decision when Mikel Arteta arrived and only left last January after Arsenal agreed to pay his full wages for the duration of time remaining on his contract. But Willian Borges agreed to leave the club when he realised things weren't working out well for him in North London.

This shows that Willian Borges really cares about football more than money, unlike Mesut Ozil.
