Burnley and Crystal Palace Continue Their Struggle Over Signing of Watford Midfielder "Will Hughes"

Burnley and Crystal Palace are set to go head-to-head in the race to sign Watford midfielder Will Hughes, according to The Mail.

Hughes is in the final year of his contract with the Hornets, and he just turned down a two-year extension.

As a result, he has been relegated to the Under 23s, and the club is expected to sanction his move before the deadline.

Crystal Palace had been in pole position to capture him, but their initial offer of £5 million was rejected down.

The London firm is hesitant to pay a higher price. The Clarets have joined the hunt for the 26-year-old and might bring him to Turf Moor.

The Hornets have been active in the transfer market and are planning additional midfield departures before the deadline.

In the summer, they signed four midfielders: Peter Etebo, Imran Louza, Juraj Kucka, and Ozan Tufan.

Hughes is one of three midfielders who could leave before the end of the month, with 77 Premier League matches to his name.

Similarly, Nathaniel Chalobah and Domingos Quina have fewer than 11 months left on their contracts and may be released soon.

Hughes has been a consistent contributor for the Hornets over the last four seasons, averaging over two tackles per game.

He'd be a good fit for Burnley or Palace, and the latter might snare him if they're ready to outbid the £5 million offer now on the table.
