Lukaku's Lack Of Goals: A Blessing In Disguise For Chelsea?

Before Chelsea's UEFA Champions League match against Malmo, Thomas Tuchel appeared to make an excuse for Romelu Lukaku as to why he has struggled for goals recently. The Chelsea boss claimed that Lukaku was overplayed by his national team and that the player is "mentally tired".

Lukaku blanked again in Chelsea's 4-0 win over Malmo on Wednesday night as the team had to depend on two penalties from Jorginho and goals from Christensen and Havertz. He has now failed to score for Chelsea since his last strike against Zenit St Petersburg in mid-September.

Lukaku's lack of goals will come as a worry to Chelsea as he was expected to be a regular scorer following his big money move from Inter Milan in the summer. However, his lack of goals has been a blessing disguise for the Blues and I will explain why.

With Lukaku's low goalscoring output, Chelsea has become an unpredictable team with capable goalscorers in different areas of the pitch. Thomas Tuchel can boast of players who are capable of finding the back of the net in every area of the pitch.

Chelsea are the team with the highest number of scorers this season. Andreas Christensen's goal against Malmo made him the 14th different player to get on the score sheet for Chelsea this season.

Lukaku's poor form in front of goal has almost gone unnoticed because the club have continued to win games without his goals. Defenders and midfielders have taken up goalscoring roles for the club this season, making it hard for opponents to predict them.

Opponents will have no idea of who to mark when they face Chelsea because several players in the team can hurt them.

Lukaku is set to face some time out after he picked up an injury on Wednesday night. He was forced out of the game in the first half with what looks like an ankle injury.

The big Belgian will finally get the rest he needs to overcome his alleged mental tiredness. The next task for Chelsea is against Premier League bottom boys Norwich City and they are expected to come away with the three points, with or without Lukaku.
