Dutch defender Xavier Mbuyamba is set to feature for Chelsea for the first time since signing for the club in the summer. The Dutchman tagged the "new Van Dijk" has not appeared for the blues since completing a move in the summer because of a long term injury. Chelsea beat competition from several European heavyweights for the signing of Mbuyamba but he got injured in just his second training session with the club.
The 19 year old underwent a keyhole surgery way back in September and was expected to return in January. However, he underwent a second operation at the start of the year keeping him away from football for about eight months. The good news for Chelsea fans is that he is now done with rehabilitation and us back in light training ahead of making his first appearance for the London side. He is expected to feature for Chelsea's under 23 team as the take on Southampton.
Mbuyamba has drawn comparisons to Liverpool sensation Virgil Van Dijk because he has a very similar style of play to the Dutch captain characterised by a dominating physical presence on the pitch. At 6'5, he should become one of the tallest players in the Chelsea team going forward and could even prove to be the club's long term replacement for former PSG captain Van Dijk.
