Chelsea FC were in midweek action in the English Premier league on Tuesday evening against Brighton.
The blues who were looking to take advantage of their fellow top 4 rivals all dropping points this week had set sights on all three points heading into this game.. Brighton were no push overs themselves though and they also came with the intent of taking something from the match.
The match which started off late due to protest outside Stamford bridge because of the recently announced European Super league saw the blues exert their dominance over their less technical rivals. The blues were in total control of the ball in the first half but the failed to find their way past a well organized Brighton side as the opening half ended with both teams level.
After the first half, Chelsea were still far off the team that played so fluently last weekend against Manchester city as their attackers struggled in the final third. Brighton also had a couple of opportunities with Danny Welbeck hitting the post with an effort.
Neither sides were unable to find a match winning goal and had to settle for a point apiece by the end of the final whistle.
Here's how the EPL table looks like after yesterday's games
Manchester city have seen their lead cut short to eight points by Second placed Manchester united who are ten points above third place Leicester city.
Chelsea climb back into the top 4 despite being unable to carve out a win against Brighton with the blues just topping fifth placed West ham goal difference. Liverpool are a further two points behind in sixth while Tottenham are 7th on the log.
Following their inability to take advantage of their rivals slip up yesterday, do you still think Chelsea can beat West ham united and Liverpool to a champions league spot by the end of the season? Kindly drop your comments in the comments section below.
